Binational effort to raise awareness of poetry and reading

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Chihuahua — Officials from Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and the United States participated in “Fandango por la Lectura,” an event to raise awareness of the importance of reading.

The event, held at the “Centro Cultural Paso del Norte”, aims to establish links between cultures and countries.

This “Fandango” event was organized by the State of Chihuahua and the United States

Some government officials present:

  • María Eugenia Campos Galván, Governor of the State of Chihuahua
  • Cruz Pérez Cuellar, mayor of Ciudad Juarez
  • Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, Writer and First Lady of Mexico
  • Ken Lee Salazar, United States Ambassador to Mexico.

The event welcomed dozens of students, staff and teachers from the college. Government officials wanted to remind them of the importance of reading in Mexico. They also took the time to read stories to the students.

Poetry was one of the main subjects.
