Maplewood Arts Council to Unveil Black Lives Matter Poetry Project in September

From the Maplewood Arts Council:

The Maplewood Arts Council is proud to present the Maplewood Black Lives Matter Poetry Project, whose installation is scheduled for the end of September 2020.

The goal of our project is to imbue the landscape of our community with the voices of black poets. We hope that residents will be able to to live in these ideas, spark conversations, and identify strongly with themes of what it means to be free as we fight against systemic racism and police brutality.

We are creating 20-25 large poetry banners that will be placed in Maplewood. Poets represented will include early 20th century academics, modern poet laureates, civil rights leaders, and local children and teachers. We will be hosting outdoor poetry readings and musical performances throughout October.

To make this project a reality, we need your help.

Thanks to generous donations from community members and local businesses, we have raised about half of the $ 4,000 needed to create this project on the scale it deserves. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation of any amount – every dollar counts. The more we elevate, the more we can share deep, transcendent and empowering poems with our community.
