RVCC to present a poetry reading featuring Chrysanthemum Tran on November 15

(BRANCHBURG, NJ) – Raritan Valley Community College will present a poetry reading with Chrysanthemum Tran on November 15 at 2:30 p.m. The event, free and open to the public, will be held at the Nash Theater on the College’s Branchburg campus. Face masks are mandatory at all RVCC facilities.

Chrysanthemum Tran is a poet, writer, performance artist and historian. She is the recipient of a MacColl Johnson Fellowship from the Rhode Island Foundation. In 2016, she burst onto the poetic slam scene by becoming the first trans woman finalist in the Women of the World Poetry Slam. Showcasing the stages of the National Poetry Slam Final and the Invitational College Slam Final, she is Rustbelt Poetry Slam Champion, FEMS Poetry Slam Champion and Providence Grand Slam Champion. With poet Justice Ameer, she produced and first presented the multidisciplinary show ANTHEM at the OBERON of the American Repertory Theater. She is currently working on her first manuscript, which reveals historical constructions and codifications of the legal sex. Born and raised in Oklahoma, she resides in Rhode Island.

The event is presented by the English Department of RVCC.
