St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church to Host In-Person Poetry Reading, Roundtable at State College | State College News

State College’s St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will host an in-person poetry reading and panel discussion Saturday at 4 p.m. as part of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, which is largely virtual this year.

The free event will feature the local Central and Lycoming County winners of the 2021 church poetry competition titled “Poetry in a Time of a Pandemic”. The event will also be available to watch via Facebook livestream.

The event will begin with a poetry reading by poet Julia Kasdorf, which will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Reverend Jeffrey Packard, Rector of St. Andrew’s. In addition to Kasdorf, panelists will include Bishop Audrey Scanlan of central Pennsylvania and Tierra Williams, candidate for Ferguson Township supervisor.

Beginning with a discussion of the links between religion and the pandemic, the panel is intended to be “a continuation of this conversation about the impact and significance of the events of 2020 and the power of poetry to help us understand them,” according to the Liberation.

Following the roundtable, the church will sell a book version of the selected and winning works of the contest titled “Poetry in a Time of Pandemic: Anthology of the 2021 St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Poetry Competition”.
