The Duck Creek Center for the Arts in Springs hosts Thumbscrew, a jazz trio, on Saturday, September 24, from 5-7 p.m. The concert is free and will take place outdoors.
This trio was born by accident, after bassist Michael Formanek was replaced in a band that included guitarist Mary Halvorson (2019 MacArthur Fellowship Awardee) and drummer Tomas Fujiwara. Something special happened between them right away, so they formed a threesome.
Registration for this event is encouraged. Visit duckcreekarts.org to register through Eventbrite.
Grace Schulman Poetry Reading
The Duck Creek Center for the Arts will present Grace Schulman: Poetry of Springs on Sunday, September 25 at 2 p.m.
Acclaimed poet Grace Schulman joins the Duck Creek Arts Center to celebrate the long legacy of Springs artists and writers who have worked in this haven for years. The history, nature and beauty of Springs continue to inspire Schulman, as do many past and present artists and writers. From the Green River cemetery to the local sands and back to her own backyard, Grace examines what it’s like to live in Springs. Join us for an evening to celebrate Schulman’s journey to his upcoming “New and Collected Poems” collection.
10 free copies of Schulman’s latest publication “The Marble Bed” will be given to the first 10 RSVPs to this program. Books must be picked up on site on the day of the reading.
